'Striving Schools’

There is evidence to suggest that the resilience levels of children have reduced. In other words, they are becoming less comfortable with discomfort. Over the last 10 years, Dr Adam Fraser, in partnership with Deakin University, has been studying how people can have a constructive and functional relationship with struggle and challenge. Using the findings of this research, Dr Fraser developed the 4H model to give schools, parents and care givers a specific strategy to help students improve their capacity to tolerate the discomfort that comes with life and learning. The 4H model is a simple, practical and easy to remember process that has a huge impact for both students and staff like.

In this presentation, Dr Fraser will go into detail about the model. He will detail how it helps to build a framework of communication that allows Educators to connect with their students, allowing them to be a better support to students through moments of struggle and uncertainty. The session will also cover how schools can partner together with parents to help students develop more resilience, improve learning outcomes and have a better relationship with discomfort.
